#033: Overcome What Holds You Back [Podcast]

I just got back from speaking at Jeff Walker‘s Product Launch Formula LIVE! event in Phoenix.

It was an amazing event, and I learned something While I was there that I must share with you. It's the secret enemy that is stealing your success right out from under you. This is the reason you keep trying and failing. The reason you keep missing the mark with your projects. And I'm going to show you a useful way of clearing the path ahead of you once and for all.

Tip Of The Week

One of the hardest parts of writing good, persuasive copy is knowing how to start. It's called “writing the lead”. And most copywriting experts agree, 80% of the pulling power of any campaign or promotion is contained in the lead. So getting that right is crucial. I just read a great little book that I enthusiastically recommend on this subject, called Great Leads: The Six Easiest Ways to Start Any Sales Message

Spiritual Foundations

There is a right way to be persuasive.

Patient persuasion can break down the strongest resistance and can even convince rulers.

Proverbs 25:15

Here's What's Holding You Back

Want to know the secret force that's holding you back? Take a good long look in the mirror.

I was sitting in the audience at Jeff Walker's event this past weekend, when my good friend Don Crowther gave a presentation. Part of his talk was about what blocks us from success. And he said the most astounding thing…

“There is no one but you keeping you from becoming who you want to be.”-Don Crowther

And then Don shared an exercise that I found very helpful. I don't think he really had a name for it, but I'm going to call it the “Seven Day Challenge”. I walk you through the exercise in the podcast (so you'll need to listen to the audio).

Special Announcements

I will be speaking in Denver, Colorado, November 9-11 at the next JV Alert Live. I'll be sharing the stage with  great marketers including my friends Joel Comm, Rick Butts, Debbie Bermont, and others. You can register for the event using this link, and I would love to connect with you in Denver. If you do register using my link, please let me know. I am thinking about having a special get together just for people I have invited to the event. I would like to get a sense of how many people that may be.

Very nice, Ray. As always, you’ve shared some very useable and readily-implementable suggestions that any of us can use in whatever business we’re in. It was my distinct pleasure to not only hear your presentation at Jeff Walker’s PLF Live, but to sit by you, have lunch with you, and compare notes as we went through the days’ events. Your presentation was not only best-o’-the-bunch, but you captured some great highlights of the other presenters that I entirely missed. You’re a great “tool” for anyone serious about their business to have in their arsenal. Thank you for your unselfish and willing sharing!

    • Thanks Martin, I always appreciate your insights – and compliments!

  • Hi Ray! Thanks for bringing up this topic. Having been at the event, for me, it was very sobering to admit to myself that I have no excuses. So I decided that in the next seven days following the event, I’m going to develop a compelling message about who I am and I’m also going to record my three videos for my free training. I’m 50 % complete! I will get there in the next 2 days- what an awesome feeling.

    • Way to go, Sonya. It takes a certain amount of courage to face the idea of having no excuses. I congratulate you on your progress, and I congratulate you in advance on your success! (By the way, it was great to meet you and spend some time with you in Scottsdale at the event.)

Hi Ray, what a powerful podcast! I want to listen to it over and over . This is really for me.
I have been bombared with so many distractions in a day that i don’t have time to do my main thing. I think i spread out too thin. I am having 3 ministries in my church, helping my wife in her dental business, managing my rentals- put out fires all the time! Now i need to find ways to take those things out off my plate. It is not easy because i like to please people. The things i like about you is that you are christian, a brother in the Lord. The trust level is there. I listened to your podcasts and put to heart. You really wanted to help your subscribers. May God Bless You!

  • Right to the heart of the matter – ouch!

  • Hi Ray!

I literally just found your podcast – another podcast I was listening to on Stitcher mentioned your book and in doing some looking around I found this amazing podcast! I think your faithfulness to this podcast will pay off soon when people realize what a bargain this podcast is due to your level of experience and immense real world knowledge of copy writing and business!

I have a question: I am a SaaS developer and online marketer and am looking to focus my audience niche to serving the not-for-profit world – have you ever seen a fundraising effort work using Jeff Walker’s Product Launch formula you mention in some of your episodes? I guess the question is what steps would you suggest to engage a Non Profits’ audience to donate using copy and online marketing processes that many IM guru’s espouse!

Any direction would be great – thanks again for this amazing content! –Nyssa
