How I Got the #1 Lens on Squidoo

Z ListI asked for it.

Seth Godin was looking for someone to take over the Z List lens. I volunteered.

I want to do my best to make this lens as good as it can possibly be — so your input is valuable. Take a look, add your own site, vote. Thanks!

Do You Want Attitude With That?

Seth points to a spooky McDonald’s employee training video from the seventies (via Robin). Seth notes that the video didn’t solve the problem. I agree that motivational videos don’t get the job done. The question is: what will?

What Happened to the Ray Edwards Forum?

The forum was flooded with spam. There was so much of it coming through I had to shut it down (temporarily, I hope). I haven’t had time to go in and clean it out. I’m really sorry about it…there was a growing community in the forum, a lot of active discussion, and now I’m at a loss as to how to protect it from these spammers. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I was using phpbb. Is there another system I can use? A plugin for phpbb that will protect it? And if I change systems, is there an easy path for migrating all the old posts/users?

Charity Begins With a Wish

The holidays are a time when we tend to be warmer in our dealings with people, and more charitable in our giving to those in need. In the Marketing DJ Podcast, I play a song that sums up my feelings on this; it’s called If Every Day Were Christmas. Some bloggers (discovered while I was going through the “Z-List” in my previous post) are doing something about that. Here’s the idea (NOTE: The following is a reprint of the post originally published at thoughtsphilosophies.com)

Get Link Love… Join the Z-Listers

There’s an interesting viral marketing experiment making the rounds…it’s the “Z-List”. Here’s how to get some “link love” for your blog… just cut and paste the entire list below to a post on your blog. Add a few Z-Listers of your own (including your own blog). Within a short period of time you should have lots of new readers, subscribers, and maybe some new friends.

Why I'm Mad At John Reese

Well, I’ve been listening to Reese on Stu’s call.

And I’m steamed. I’m mad.

I’m steamed because he said what I was planning to say just after the first of the year! Quite some time ago I became convinced of some big changes that were underway in the online marketing world.

And now I’m angry because I should have talked about this earlier.

I can prove that this has been on my mind for quite a while, and I will.

But that will have to wait. Right now I’ve got work to finish in advance of the holiday.

What I Learned From My Blind Dog

My dog Scooter has gone blind.

At first it was heartbreaking.

Watching him bump into things, and then seeing him withdraw, sit still for long periods of time…

It made me wonder what he must be thinking.

If it was even worth still being around, when he had once been so fiercely independent.

He’s always been a cute little guy, but also kind of grouchy and self-centered.

He’s about 99 in people years, but that hasn’t slowed him down too much.

Until he went 100% blind over the last few months.

Big Seminar Report Part 2

Ray's New CarHere’s another update from Big Seminar. Saturday turned out to be a pretty big day, since I won this car. Aside from that, there was great material from Michel and Sylvie Fortin about a unique way of creating income from content you already own; Jim Edwards on video marketing made easy; Mike Filsaime sharing his newest techniques and advanced marketing strategies; Matt Bacak on the online system he has used to create millionaire after millionaire; and the ever-classy Alex Mandossian with some revolutionary ideas about marketing with teleseminars.

Copywriter's Report From Big Seminar

Whew! It’s been a busy year, and it’s hard to believe that most of it has passed by already.

I’m in Atlanta attending Armand Morin’s Big Seminar — the last “road trip” I have planned this year. I think I have traveled a total of 100,000 miles this year (or very close to that), and I’m definitely ready to be home for a few weeks in a row.

I thought I’d share my impressions of Big Seminar with you, and “blog it” for you as it unfolds.
