Garbage Can With a Hairy Lid?

I was a young lad attending a motivational rally, and the speaker had us repeat this phrase: “My brain is not a garbage can with a hairy lid!”

The point: don't let your brain be filled with poisonous thoughts. I've tried to live by that maxim since then.

Jeff Walker – a friend, mentor and client of mine – wrote an excellent piece on this yesterday, called “Injecting Poison Into Your Brain”.

There is plenty of “garbage” available to put into your head. TV shows, newspapers, radio talk shows, and sensationalist blogs abound, all playing on the general fascination with bad news.

I stopped watching most TV shows, and stopped reading newspapers, for this very reason, quite some time ago.

Why put things into your head that disempower you?

Why not consciously choose what goes into your mind, and choose it for strategic reasons?

In the words of one influential writer, the Apostle Paul, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Presented for your consideration.

And read Jeff Walker's article; it's good stuff, and worth reading, especially for Internet Entrepreneurs.
