Okay, I still don’t know quite what to make of this.
It seems hard to believe.
But a TechCrunch article seems to show that MySpace is stealing content from Paul Colligan.
Am I missing something?
Can someone explain to me how this is okay?
Has the world gone mad?
Ray Edwards is a Direct Response Copywriter, Speaker, Author, and Marketing Strategist. His clients include Jack Canfield, Alex Mandossian, Frank Kern, and Mark Victor Hansen (there are more, but jeez, then it would start to sound like name-dropping).
I don’t think MySpace is stealing from Paul Colligan. That is libel, to say that they are. What TechCrunch is saying is that MySpace News turns up in the Google search results when you search for Paul Colligan. That’s all. MySpace doesn’t claim to own anyone’s content. They aggregate news and drive traffic to your site.
And just for the record, I didn’t say they ARE… I said the piece makes it SEEM that they are.
That being said, it doesn’t seem nice, what they’re doing. Doesn’t seem fair. Does it?
Yes, they aggregate news. But the way they have that page framed clearly is designed to make it appear they are the source of the information.
When you get to the page there is some relavant content there. Google should index myspace.
Yeah, that does seem like a pretty blatant manipulation. I bet that won’t continue to fly. Look at what Google did this last month to address some of the validity of link backs, etc.

Frames Are Not Evil!
The article has a legitimate complaint about content theft. However, I disagree that frames are the source of the problem.
Frames can be an excellent tool for marketers. They are a very effective way to mask an affiliate ID. Try it.
Your Page Title
If you use it to steal content,
you’re the thief,
not the frame.
