The Abundance Of The Heart

It's not hard to figure out what people are thinking.

You only have to listen to what they say.

Jesus said, “…out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Here are some things I've heard various people say over the last 48 hours:

  • “That drives me crazy.”
  • “You're breaking my heart.”
  • “He makes me so mad, I could kill him sometimes.”
  • “I just can't get a break.
  • “I'm such a loser.”

What's interesting about all of these things, is each of them were said in a tone of voice that seemed to indicate it was only a joke.

I wonder.

Is it harmless to say such derogatory things about ourselves, about others, about the quality of our life?

Or does saying such things reveal (perhaps even reinforce) what we really believe?

What do the words you say reveal to others about what's in your heart?
