  • Thanks for another great show Ray. Interesting point about the ketogenic diet, I have a brother who has suffered with epilepsy since childhood and no drugs seem to be able to control it effectively so I will recommend he looks into the ketogenic diet.
Also I have a copy of the one sentence persuasion course, it has been sitting on my hard drive for ages, I had completely overlooked it, so thanks to you I will now read through it and put it to good use.
Looking forward to the next podcast.

Great show as always and I don’t want to be a spoil-sport but… The ketogenic diet started out as a medically controlled diet reducing epileptic seizures in children.

The “Keto” diet is usually not recommended for adults and if care is not taken can result in side effects such as; high cholesterol levels, kidney stones, easy bone fractures (you need to take in extra calcium and vitamin D), constipation, dehydration, etc…

If you skip one Keto meal the effect is lost, and it is warned that the diet should only be considered in extreme cases as it can do more harm than good in the long term. It can even damage your heart and should only be considered as a short term treatment.

The South Beach diet and Atkins diet were based on the Keto diet and only had short term effectiveness.

I grew up in a semi desert part of the world on a farm where milk, butter and bread (home-made and in copious amounts), mutton, and lots of vegetables were eaten and we lived very active lives as is usually the case on a farm. Very few people were overweight, had diabetes or heart problems and those who had lived well into their nineties.

So what I’m saying in essence, is that you should take any of the modern (expensive) diets with a grain of salt because any way I look at it I always see the “perpetrators” making a lot of money. So what is it really about? The health of others or plain and simple greed.

Anyway, just had to get this off my chest and because I have been studying diets for the past forty odd years.

Have a great day and thanks again for a great program.

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the wisdom you’ve accumulated over the years. As you might imagine, since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease I have taken a keen interest in health matters – especially how diet affects the body, and especially the brain. While I’m not convinced that the keto diet should “only be considered in extreme cases”, nor that it does “more harm than good in the long term”, I do respect the concern and care that prompted you to write. There is wisdom in many counsellors. Thanks Jac!
