Anyone with a good product can promote it – by mastering a specific method of persuasive communication. Copywriting.

Today we'll give you a basic framework for that, plus some cool cheat sheets you can use right away.

Spiritual Foundations

Are you in a “valley” in your life?

Are you lonely? Depressed? Afraid?

Maybe it's a minor valley – a day where you seem to be slightly off schedule and unproductive, ineffective, and uninspired.

Maybe it's more serious: an argument with your spouse, a problem with a child who has gone astray, or you've just lost your job.

Or maybe it's worse: you or someone you love received a devastating medical diagnosis. Someone close to you may have died or been horribly injured.

These are all valleys – and all can lead to hopelessness and the fear of facing the valley alone. There's even a song about it, written by Woody Guthrie:

You gotta walk that lonesome valley,
You gotta walk it by yourself,
Nobody here can walk it for you,
You gotta walk it by yourself.

This is actually a Christian song, full of references to Biblical heroes. It's well-written. It's catchy. And it is 100% wrong.

Jesus is our Great and Good Shepherd, and He promises every believer that he will “never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

He said, “I will be with you always.” (Matthew 28:20)

You are never alone. You don't walk ANY valley by yourself – not even the darkest one.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:4

Notice it's the valley of the SHADOW of death. Not death itself. For Christians, there is no such thing as death. We go on. We transition. We are resurrected – but it's even better than that. We are placed into bodies and lives BETTER than any we EVER have in this present age.

Jesus walked the valley of death so we wouldn't have to. Click To Tweet

Jesus walked the valley of death so we wouldn't have to. Then he snatched the victory from death, rose again, and handed us back the keys of the kingdom.

It's worth noting that up until this point in the 23rd Psalm. God is LEADING us… and then suddenly we WALK into the valley of the SHADOW of death.

But even though walking into the FEAR of death may be our choice… or perhaps we even contributed to the DANGER TO OURSELVES by smoking, driving drunk, cheating in a marriage – or whatever… Jesus is not there to WHACK us with his Shepherd's staff and say “I TOLD you so!”

But see how Jesus, our good shepherd, watches over and delivers us even though we walk—not by His leading—into the valley of the shadow of death.

He is still with you in the valley.

It's NOT a lonesome valley.

You DON'T have to walk it by yourself.

Somebody else DID walk it for you.

His name is Jesus.

Feature Segment: Promote Your Product

Last time, in episode 239

3 Converging Forces That Make “Idea Businesses” Possible

  1. Global Networks
  2. Instant Commerce Systems
  3. Digital Distribution

These 3 converging forces make it possible to take your life's passion and turn that passion into a book, a product, or a business.

We gave you a method for determining WHAT to package into a product. So if you need that, go back and listen to episode 239.

Now, this is where people get STUCK.

  • “How do I make a product?”
  • “I don't have a video studio/camera/produce/face.”
  • “I'm shy.”
  • “I can't write, or I hate writing.”

The “how” to make the product is NOT THE MAIN ISSUE. It's a detail. People get stuck, but it's easy to overcome.

This is all a smokescreen for the REAL problem.

The REAL problem is: we don't like to sell.

Your product is good.

  • Great podcast. Love the Q & A!

  • Ray Edwards, App, great idea!! I’d love it!!

  • WOW! Imagine me listening to the show today and hearing myself, talk to myself! Thank you for the response, I am looking forward to seeing your “Best of” or “Ray Edwards Approved” page!

Also, your book showed up in the mail Friday from Amazon and I have really been into it! This will probably be one I put right next to Essentialism and read again and again. Scratch that, no it won’t. Because I’ll be using it like a guideline physical swipe-file to write my blog posts, newsletters, and future support/fundraising letters. For that to happen I will have to keep it on hand not on a shelf.

I also learned something today that I must have missed on podcast #238:
“Julie wants to know how to get this free book about LinkedIn marketing from John Nemo.” SO I was able to go back and take advantage of that free resource!

Thanks again Ray & Sean for the great podcast and content!

  • Excellent podcast. Your valley lesson caused further reflection. When we’re valley focused, it is easy to experience overwhelm, confusion, fear, anxiety, etc. Shifting focus heavenward (Psalms 46:10), we experience power beyond what is normal. All that angst transforms into peace, contentment, and faith.
(“Holistic copywriting”—you cover the whole by uncovering causes.) :0)

  • Matthew Eaton

I want to thank you for letting me remember why I often say I am not passionate about things.

I am simply not interested in selling my work. It isn’t a fear, it isn’t a need to solve problems or be heard. It is just not interesting to me. I kept trying to force myself to monetize everything I had a passion about, but it always failed because I wasn’t being true to what I really wanted.

So, this is a strange way of saying it, but I want to thank you two for reminding me why I actually need to stop worrying about selling something I am not interested in selling and just do it as a hobby.

    I appreciate it!

  • Funniest two words of the whole podcast – “You’re welcome.” ~Sean

    Good stuff.
