#035: How To Get More Done By Working Less [Podcast]

Do you ever feel like a hamster on a wheel? As if you have to keep running to keep your business afloat, and have no option ever stop? If you’d like to start living a different kind of life… a life where you work less, and actually accomplish more, then today’s podcast is for you.

Tip Of The Week

This week’s tip is for an iPad app called Notability. This is my favorite new app. It’s about so much more than just taking notes. This app does allow you to take notes, but it also gives you the power to share your ideas using Dropbox and other convenient online services. You can combine notes, sketches, and even photos, and it is even a great way to make quick presentations. Plus, I now feel that I can (sometimes) leave my Moleskine behind, because I have Notability on my iPad. Check it out.

Spiritual Foundations

The secret to having peace and eliminating stress is not simply working hard to eliminate negative thoughts. You have to replace them with something else.:

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Philippians 4:8

Be encouraged that God has provided a way for you to live in peace and to be worry free, even in the midst of terrible circumstances. Think on it!

How To Get More Done By Working Less

It is entirely possible for almost anyone to get more accomplished in less hours. In fact, I can almost guarantee it. Here are five ways to get more done by working less:

1. Have a hard stop.

2. Stop working Fridays.

3. Work in defined blocks of time.

4. Check email only once per day.

5. Write out a “not to do list”.

  1. I’ve gotten much more done by clearing my desktop screen on my computer. For example, if I’m using Microsoft Word to work on something, everything is closed. I don’t even have application shortcuts on my screen- that helps me resist the temptation to multitask.

  2. Great episode, Ray!!! I have two “To Do” lists. One is a running list of everything that comes to mind or gets passed my way. The other is the “Top 10” list of what needs to get done TODAY and today only. This gives me a sense of accomplishment rather than staring at the never-ending list.

  3. Excellent podcast channel Ray! Just found out about you the week before Thanksgiving from Michael Hyatt. Listened to a few episodes while traveling and I was hooked. Now going through catching up on all the ones I’ve missed. Great content.

Working Less, Doing More… Great reminder for all of us. I know I constantly struggle with the email addiction. Always appreciate the reminder on how it not only wastes my time but is altering my brain!

  4. Ray!

The wallet story! That’s awesome man. You know what I’m thinking don’t you? You just did not notice your wallet was in your pocket, even though you checked a dozen times – you were just distracted and A.D.D.-like. Wait for it… and I’m a pastor!! LOL

Okay, I believe you Ray – great story, and great advice for getting more done in less time.
